I have a lot in my mind, a lot on my heart right now. Work, relationships, church and the turmoil in the world (just avoid CNN at all costs, thank me later) all conspire to make us feel defeated. I sense my own sinfulness and the Devil creeping in on me, telling me I will fail, telling me God isn’t there or isn’t enough.
But I’m wrong, and so is the Devil, and do you know how I know that? Well, you see, our God is crafty. He’s brilliant. He knew this exact challenge would arise — that the world would close in, fangs out, seeking blood.
And so He told us the truth.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33
I don’t need to overcome the world. I simply need to remember that He has, and follow along. Christ, lead our steps, lead us Home to you.
Oh, Lord — write this on my heart with ink that time cannot touch:
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 8:37-39
